Geodetic, Topographic and Land Surveys

Geodetic

First order horizontal and vertical control surveys have been performed by our staff for over 20 years.  Johnson-McAdams has been providing GPS control surveys for Government agencies for 16 years.  GPS control survey experience includes all orders of surveys (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th).

Johnson-McAdams has performed I&E surveys on floodwalls, dams, locks and dams, dam outlet works, spillways and levee systems.

Topographic Surveying

Johnson-McAdams Surveying and Mapping has provided topographic surveys for many private and government clients. Automated topographic surveys have been performed for nineteen (19) years using Total Stations with Data Collectors formatted for entry into the client's CADD system. We have performed plans and specification surveys and site condition surveys for a wide variety of clientele. All of Johnson-McAdams' Supervisors and Party Chiefs have extensive topographic mapping experience.

OTF-RTK Surveys

OTF-RTK Surveys have been performed by our staff for eleven (11) years.  Johnson-McAdams has Trimble OTF-RTK GPS Systems that are compact and highly mobile, each system consisting of two receivers with Real Time Kinematic (RTK) and On-the-Fly (OTF) options.  This differential GPS total station allows the survey team to work freely throughout suitable sites and gather centimeter accuracy xyz data in the data collector real time.  These systems combined with all-terrain vehicles provide fast and high accuracy control for topographic surveys.  Our field personnel are experienced in performing topographic surveys using Dual Frequency Vehicle Mounted On-the-Fly (OTF) GPS and Real Time Kinematic (RTK) or Quick Static systems.  Our GPS experience includes utilizing code and carrier phase L1 / L2 receivers.

Boundary / Land Surveys

Boundary / Land (Cadastral) surveys have been performed for over twenty-eight years. These surveys are performed by in-house personnel licensed in Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama and Arkansas. Services include boundary line establishment, retracement, subdivision layout, monumentation, ROW acquisiton, and much more.

Hydrographic Surveys

Hydrographic Surveying

Hydrographic Surveys have been performed extensively on the Mississippi River, Red River, Ouachita River, Black Warrior River, Alabama River, Tenn-Tom Waterway, White River, Black River, Atchafalaya River, Yazoo River, lakes, bays/harbors/beaches, inland navigation projects and many smaller rivers and streams.  The firm has seventeen (17) years of experience performing automated hydrographic surveys utilizing DGPS technology, many of which were for the Government.  Our equipment includes three 23-foot cabin hydrographic boats with automated real time DGPS hydrographic survey systems for use on hydrographic survey projects. Microprocessor guidance control systems are available on all vessels.  DGPS systems are capable of acquiring data in real time from many miles offshore.  Our staff has collected gage and discharge measurements on the Mississippi River and its tributaries including large and small streams.

Multi-beam Hydrographic Surveys have also been performed for Government clients. Johnson-McAdams has been performing multi-beam hydrogrpahic surveys for twelve (12) years.

Construction / Specialty Surveys

Engineering Surveys

Engineering Surveys have been performed for many Government projects throughout the Mid-South, and include, but are not limited to, valley/channel sections, bridge details, planimetric and roadway work.

Construction Surveys

Construction surveys performed by Johnson-McAdams Surveying and Mapping include site layout and verification, grade and setting stakes,
pre and post dredge surveys, and as-built surveys. In addition, these surveys have been performed to establish or verify pay quantities on construction projects with very short delivery times.

CADD / GIS / Mapping

Mapping

All of our crews have the ability to submit digital field data directly from the job site, including topographic, hydrographic and GPS data files, field reports, photographs, etc.

Once submitted to the office, these data sets are put through Quality Control checks to verify proper base coordinates, horizontal and vertical datums, survey limit coverage, and more to assure that the project has been surveyed to the clients' specifications. Most mapping is performed using the firm's integrated automated mapping systems for the preparation of planimetric, contour and ownership mapping. The firm's personnel and equipment enables processing of the final product in any client-specified format required. Mapping can be provided in both MicroStation V8i and AutoCAD. Additional information can be generated from 3D models such as cross-sections, profiles, volume computations and comparitive or monitoring surveys. The firm's crews also have the capacity to process and map field data on site for emergency type surveys. Using InRoads Site Suite V8i, digital terrain models are genrated from the digital survey data and subsequent design file. Alignments (.alg) can be generated from graphic baseline or centerlines, or by a coordinate tabulation. Once the .dtm and .alg files have been generated, the software can output profiles, cross sections, and volume reports in various formats and file types. Experience also includes plotting of cross sections and quantity calculations using TIN (Triangulated Irregular Network) or DTM (Digital Terrain Model).
